Video 1. Innovative behavior in a male Pacific walrus at Six Flags Marine World, Vallejo, California. The walrus Sivuqaq uses a rubber toy as an instrument to produce a buzzing sound at a specific feature of the underwater viewing window. The examples show the strong response of three same-aged females in the social group. Underwater sound recorded by hydrophone from within the pool. Footage is included of female walrus Uquq displaying components of the male’s behavior prior to producing the same sound producing response with this object.
